Current Activities
I am pursuing a Masters degree in Scientific Computing at the Courant Institute in the Fall 2006.
I am also working at Scholastic Inc., and other educational publishers like Educate Inc. about 10-15 hrs/week.
Past Activities
Most recently I volunteered for cSplash, which is a day of free math and science classes for High School students in the tri-state area. I managed the website and also taught a class called "The Web as Two-Way Street" which was a blast.
In summer of '06 I took two undergrad math classes at UCLA -- Multivariable Calculus & Linear Algebra w/ applications.
and I also worked one day per week at Viewpoints Research Institute. I was supposed to be
creating a speech recognition system, but that was pretty hard, so I worked on a springs simulator for much of the time.
I have taken the following courses to date at Courant:
Interests
- I am interested in improving Math Education. I am a volunteer math tutor for Top Honors Inc. where I work with 6-8th grade students who are struggling in math.
- Speech Recognition -- I have been thinking of building a simple speech recognition system using Hidden Markov Models (more later)
- Swimming -- I swam several races in the Hudson river last summer with the Manhattan Island Foundation
- Sudoku -- I got sort of obsessed with sudoku one weekend and wrote a brute-force solver in perl.
- China -- I spent a year in China when I graduated from college (Oct 2001- Aug 2002). I taught English in a few places and picked up some putonghua (Mandarin Chinese). (pictures to come)
